Tasks 10

Test 1

Test 2

Best Solution

Experimenting with another tower

Test Solution

Experimenting with another tower (an office building) that connects to the Exhibition Space

Connects the Exhibition Space and the tower (office building)

FINAL GALAPAGOS TEST FOR MAXIMUM SOLUTION
After running the Galapagos Solver for a few times, this solution is the most idealistic solution that not only being able to find solution for the openings of the entrance that allow people to enter but looks the best among all other design that gives the 'Igloo-like Space' a nicer appearance.

CONCEPT AND IDEA

To create openings of entrance space according to the number of people in the room, thus, with the help of Galapagos Evolutionary Solver, the best outcome will be produced and also, this will eventually become the design of the Exhibition Space.

The images above show the design of the Exhibition Space without running Galapagos for maximum solution of the opening inside the exhibition space. The geometry of the building is influenced by the site, which is in Sydney's Circular Quay, overlooking the Sydney Harbour and the surroundings, which consists of water. Therefore, producing a form which is related to water, "Igloo-like Space", where igloo is form by large blocks of ice and ice is water frozen and turning into solid state.

Assignment 2

PROPOSAL

Proposal

Research Question
How to maximize the suitability of the designed building in the environment?

Topic Statement
Advanced design modelling tools and application helps in optimizing the outcome of the building.

Intention and approach of proposal
The intention of this proposal is to create an architectural space that is suitable for the site of the Bennelong Apartments and to consider the access to the building from different directions.

Methodology
The type of research that will be used in this study is qualitative and quantitative research. With the help of application tools, the Grasshopper plug-in and the Galapagos will be used. A design that suits the character of the site with different surroundings will be modelled. The site is located near the Sydney Harbor and have lots of entertainment districts and public spaces surrounding it, it is a popular tourist destination and therefore a design of the building will be created using Grasshopper to fulfill the space will aesthetics. The model will not only be a space itself but also an art that helps shapes and add character to the environment.

The quantitative research will be done through Galapagos. Galapagos is a graphical algorithm editor which is able to solve problems and optimize the design of the building with figures. After having a designed building model, Galapagos will be used to test the suitability of the designed building in the site. With figures given to Galapagos evolutionary solver, it will then analyzes the model and configure the design of the model to test the outcome and produces the best solution for the model.

Proposed results
In this study, I would like to model an exhibition room that has sufficient space for people to move around inside the building and also having a few entrances. The opening of the entrance will be according to path people would most likely take, for example, the opening of the entrance that is the biggest symbolizes the entrance most people will enter from. The results above should be achieved by controlling the parameters mainly. The building itself will be an exhibition piece from the outside, drawing the attention of passersby. The Bennelong Apartments is a residential apartment building in Circular Quay, Sydney and it has a view of Sydney Harbor. To create a building located at this specific site, I thought of creating a model with parametric designs, creating a building which has interesting curves and shapes in the exterior. As for the interior, I think it would be good having mostly glass windows, the reason is because it enables people to have a clear view of Sydney Harbor so the architecture does not only look good itself but also make the environment nicer and connecting with the surroundings. It shall not just stand on its own but also showing off the rest of the surrounding areas. I will experiment with Grasshopper and Galapagos and get the results I desire most which is creating a architectural space with functions of an exhibition room inside the building and having multiple entrances to allow accessibility into the building. It should also be an architectural exhibition piece itself as a building and gives a sense of futuristic in parametric designed building.
